GENERAL STORE 20 - 24 June 2018

THE GENERAL STORE PRESENTED new works from Lancaster based artist Ellie Barrett & Walthamstow artist Flora Bradwell. The artists TOOK over the GENERAL STORE for several days before opening WHERE THEY continUED to develop their practices within the space in front of the audience.

Both artists respondED to each other throughout their time in the space, creating works that WHERE often crude and humorous, sometimes collaborating whilst other times challenging and clashing. This opening up of artistic practice sOUGHT to demystify the making process in order to generate conversations between artist and audience, presenting art as an inclusive activity which is anti-elitist and accessible to all.

We added an element of audience participation in the form of social media interaction where our followers could cast their vote for the next day’s creations.

We asked ‘YOU’ the audience what 'you' wanted to see the artists make in the space. Casting a vote through the form of emojis the artists responded to the public's demand.

Workshops were provided throughout the week where the audience were invited to get messy with Ellie and Flora, proving that art is for all generations.
